Recently 82nd of Portland has a new addition to it's large selection of Chinese Restaurant. Yummy Yummy, is a Chinese restaurant that attempt to make it into fine dinning. But what it's small size, horrible parking, and horrible decoration, it really make me wonder... Can they make it? When it first open, there were a lot of hype, but now it slowly die down. The Co-Owner of the restaruant used to be the manager at Wong King, which was another Chinese restuarnat that try to break into the Fine Dinning industry. You can really tell that it got most of it's design, ideas, decorations, and even down to the menus is from Wong King. The restaurant, although small, is richly decorated with gold statues, fish tanks, and dried seafoods. Now about the foods... I went there the other day and I decided to try out thier signature dish, Braised Abalone. It is defently not worth the price. I mean they charge 45 dollar per person for an abalone. Which if it is the real thing is worth the price. But it is not. It taste like it come from a can and was just braised for about 20 minuite or so. To really enjoy abalone, you have to get the dry one, which retain it's taste and become stronger with age, and it have to be braised in a special sauce for at least a day or so. When you eat it, it is suppose to be savory, smooth, and literally melt in your mouth. But the abalone served at Yummy Yummy is both tough, tasteless, and the sauce is way too salty and they make such a hype when they serve it. I can only come to two conclusion about that dish. It is either from a can and they advertise it as dried abalone, or they do not know how to cook at all... The service leave much to be desire. Most of the waitress does not speak English, and the staff are both rude and look down on teenager and students. They are rude and have this altiude that they are too good to serve you. Well to F-ing bad, your the server, Iam the customer, I expect some decent service! For all of this I give this restauant 2 stars out of 5. Although it is bad, it does have some redeeming factor.
